Prepare yourself for this hot take: The adults surveyed by FinanceBuzz said the most annoying Christmas song is “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey. Don’t come for us — we’re just the messengers!
The return of the modern classic to stores and radio is an evitable component of the holiday season. For the past five years, the 1994 song has hit No. 1 overall on the Billboard during the week of Christmas. While it was the most popular song in only two states last season, most states (27) ranked it as one of the five most popular songs. It was among the three most popular songs in 20 states.
The popularity of Carey’s holiday song may be why some find it annoying. As with most songs perceived to be overplayed, people are bound to get tired of “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
Sorry, Texas and Florida! “Feliz Navidad” was ranked the third most annoying Christmas song. The general public’s feelings about the song may be similar to those of “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Both tend to be played nearly everywhere each season and can begin to grate on the ears.
