The 2024 US Open is finally here, and massive crowds are expected at Flushing Meadows as the final grand slam tennis tournament of the year gets underway. Novak Djokovic and the US’s very own Coco Gauff are the defending ATP and WTA singles champions respectively, both of whom will be hoping to go back-to-back.
Despite their victories in 2023, neither Djokovic nor Gauff is seeded first in the ATP and WTA rankings ahead of the tournament, with Jannik Sinner top of the pile in the men’s singles competition owing to his status as world number one. Carlos Alcaraz beat Olympic champion Djokovic in straight sets in the last grand slam final at Wimbledon, but is seeded third.
The women’s rankings leader Iga Swiatek is the top seed for the women’s competition, with Gauff sat third and also trailing second seed Aryna Sabalenka – whom she defeated 2-6 6-3 6-2 in last year’s final. Fellow US stars Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, Emma Navarro and Madison Keys are all within the top 14 seeded players at the 2024 Open.
