Salaar 2: Release Date Window, Cast, Story & Everything We Know

There has been some hopeful news regarding Salaar 2, the sequel to the acclaimed Tollywood epic, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, that will make fans of the film excited. The 2023 Indian movie was a huge box office success, earning over $100 million and breaking a global box office record. Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire stars Prabhas as the titular Salaar. Set in the near-future, dystopian city-state of Khansaar, Salaar (who goes by Deva) teams up with his friend, Varadha (Prithviraj Sukumaran), to ensure Varadha’s throne is secured against sinister forces.

This epic Tollywood tale takes place across centuries, depicting events in the present, all the way back to the 12th century. Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire opened to a warm reception, with reviews noting the world-building, lead performances, and incredible action sequences as high points. The end of the film, as well as the title itself, always promised a sequel film and the producers of Salaar were quick to say that another movie was in the works. There has not been much released about Salaar 2 but what is known can be found below.

On August 10, 2024, it was announced that Prabhas would begin filming for Salaar 2 (via IndiaToday). Prashanth Neel is still on as director, and the set from Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is being reused.

Salaar 2 Is Confirmed

Salaar 2 Was Confirmed In January 2024

Salaar 2 was confirmed soon after Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire aired in December 2023. The producer, Vijay Kiragandur, announced that Salaar 2 had already been written, saying (via DNAIndia),

“The script of Salaar 2 is ready and we will start the film any time. Prabhas wants to take it on floors as soon as possible and even Prashanth wants to do it. We have been speaking about Salaar 2 and our discussion in the last two to three days was to make the film in the next 15 months. We will definitely release Salaar 2 in 2025, which is about 18 months from now.”

From the sound of it, Salaar 2 is already past the planning stage and just needs to be filmed and edited. As far as the producers are concerned, there was never any doubt that Salaar 2 would go into production.

Going off Vijay Kiragandur’s comments, it appears that Salaar 2 will be released in the summer of 2025.

Most Of The Cast Should Return

Prabhas as Devaratha “Deva” Raisaar/”Salaar”, Prithviraj Sukumaran as Vardha Raja “Vardha” Mannar, and Shruti Hassan as Aadhya were all confirmed for Salaar 2 in July 2024 (via TimesOfIndia). As the first movie ends on a cliffhanger, it’s easy to predict who will be returning for the sequel. Bobby Simha as Bhaarava, Ramachandra Raju as Rudra Raja Mannar, Devaraj as Om, and Shafi as Thiru are all positioned to play important parts in the sequel.
