The Met Gala 2025 has come and passed! Keep reading for all you need to know about how fashion‘s largest night unfolded—starting with the theme, then the co-hosts, attendees, decorations, and this year‘s dress code.
The Met Gala is a benefit and fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It has historically been scheduled to coincide with the opening of the department’s yearly fashion exhibit. The event raises eight-figure amounts every year. This year, proceeds have apparently totaled $31 million—museum officials say it’s the largest total in the starry, storied event’s 77-year history.
The 2025 Met Gala was held on Monday, May 5. The red carpet began around 4:30 pm EST / 1:30 pm PST. You may still refer to all that you may have missed from the 2025 Met Gala red carpet on the live blog now!
Don’t worry, you didn’t miss all the pageantry and drama of the night: The official 2025 Met Gala livestream aired exclusive coverage of it all for a fifth consecutive year.
Singer and actress Teyana Taylor, actress and producer La La Anthony, and actress and comedian Ego Nwodim hosted this year’s livestream, which aired on all of Vogue’s digital platforms (and on YouTube). The Met Gala livestream officially started at 6 pm EST / 3 pm PST.

On October 9, Wednesday, the Metropolitan Museum of Art released the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibition is structured in 12 sections, each denoting a quality that identifies dandy style: Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability, Jook (as identified in Zora Neale Hurston’s “Characteristics of Negro Expression”—a key reference for the exhibiton—as a dance, drink, and other recreation space), Heritage, Beauty, Cool, and Cosmopolitanism.
Superfine” will include clothing, paintings, photos, and so on by artists such as Torkwase Dyson, Tanda Francis, André Grenard Matswa, and Tyler Mitchell—all of whom are looking at the enduring aesthetic of Black dandies, from the 18th century to the current moment. (Miller also guest curates the show in collaboration with Costume Institute Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton.)
Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour co-chaired the 2025 Met Gala and had LeBron James as an honorary chair.
Reviving a decades-old tradition, the 2025 Met Gala also featured a host committee comprised of André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jordan Casteel, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Jeremy O. Harris, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Rashid Johnson, Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, Audra McDonald, Janelle Monáe, Jeremy Pope, Angel Reese, Sha’Carri Richardson, Tyla, Usher, and Kara Walker.
As also announced in February, the dress code for the Met Gala 2025 was “Tailored for You,” in a reference to the menswear and suiting focus of the exhibition that will certainly elicit the sartorial imagination of this year’s guests.
That’s been kept on the down low for the most part; guests have to sign off on a no-phone (and, in effect, no social media) rule once inside the museum. But the evening run-of-show includes cocktails, dinner—under the auspices this year of chef Kwame Onwuachi, of Tatiana in Lincoln Center and Dōgon in Washington, DC—along with a A-list performer (or two). Attendees always did get a few minutes to preview the exhibition.
Decor, naturally, was always treated seriously. As guests arrived at the Met, they were awestruck by a tower of climbing narcissus flowers by artist Cy Gavin. His entrancing painting Untitled (Sky), was projected onto the Temple of Dendur ceiling during dinner.
James Beard Award-winning chef Onwuachi was responsible for designing this year’s menu. As he explained to Vogue, “I was inspired by Black dandyism and Black life in fashion—it’s borrowed from so many different corners and paths of the diaspora. I wanted to take all that, from the hors d’oeuvres to plated dinner at the gala.” For the cocktail reception, the guests enjoyed hoecakes with fried chicken, chopped cheeses, caviar-topped cornbread, and curry chicken patties. For dinner—the headliner—papaya piri piri salad, creole roasted chicken and lemon emulsion, rice and peas, and a hot, fresh sauce, and a “Bodega Special Cosmic Brownie” made up the menu.
Superfine” will feature garments, paintings, photographs, and more from artists including Torkwase Dyson, Tanda Francis, André Grenard Matswa, and Tyler Mitchell—all exploring the indelible style of Black dandies, from the 18th century through to the present day. (Miller also serves as a guest curator for the show, working alongside Costume Institute Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton.)

Bringing back a tradition from past years, the 2025 Met Gala also featured a host committee, which consisted of André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jordan Casteel, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Jeremy O. That’s all mostly hush-hush; visitors have to follow a no-phone (and, by extension, no social media) policy after they’ve entered the museum. But the run-of-show includes cocktails, dinner—managed this year by chef Kwame Onwuachi, of Lincoln Center’s Tatiana restaurant and Washington, DC’s Dōgon restaurant—and a big-name performer (or two). Visitors always had an opportunity to view the exhibition.
The Met Gala is hosted by The Metropolitan Museum of Art annually. Out-of-town (and even in-town) guests generally overnight at hotels in the area, gathering at a handful of celebrity hot spots. In 2023, the Mark Hotel was a great place to spot stars; check out our shots from within its walls. We saw the likes of Cynthia Erivo, Lisa, and Doechii venturing out of the Mark. Colman Domingo, Emma Chamberlain, Hunter Schafer, and Anne Hathaway took a speedy exit from The Carlyle.
The event typically has around 450 guests, inviting stars, young creatives, and paragons of the fashion, art, sports, and political worlds. Take a look back at some of the greatest looks from longtime guests Blake Lively, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna—and many more of the most iconic Met Gala looks ever. Also see all that goes into the Met Gala seating chart.
