IPL 2024 Playoffs: Qualified teams, schedule, venues and match timings

The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs will get underway in two days’ time. Four teams — Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs. And while KKR have sealed top spot and RCB will play the Eliminator, the remaining two positions in the top four of the IPL standings will be determined following the completion of Sunday’s matches, which will be the last of the league stage.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently taking on Punjab Kings in Uppal in their final league game, whereas KKR will take on RR in Sunday’s later game. KKR (19 points) currently lead the points table with RR (16) in second place. SRH (13) are in third place whereas RCB, who have played all of their league games will finish fourth with 14 points.

Saturday witnessed a thriller as RCB hosted reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Bengaluru. RCB rode on knocks from Virat Kohli (47), Faf du Plessis (54) and Rajat Patidar (41) to post 218/5.

They needed to restrict CSK to 200 or below in order to qualify and did so, courtesy final over heroics from Yash Dayal and despite a late fightback from Ravindra Jadeja (42*) and MS Dhoni (25). CSK were eventually restricted to 191/7 from 20 overs, asRCB completed a 27-run win.

The Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be held in Ahmedabad whereas Chennai will host the Qualifier 2 and final.

Format

The teams that are placed first and second in the IPL 2024 points table (KKR and RR currently) will take on each other in Qualifier 1. The winner of that match receives direct qualification for the final, whereas the loser gets another shot at reaching the title clash.

The loser of Qualifier 1 will play the winner of Eliminator (currently SRH and RCB) in Qualifier 2. The winner of Eliminator advances to Qualifier 2, whereas the loser of that game gets eliminated completely. The winner of Qualifier 2 then progresses to final, where they will lock horns against the winner of Qualifier 1.
