Atal Setu Bridge inauguration Interesting fact

LIST OF FACTS:-

PM Modi opens Atal Setu, India’s longest sea bridge, to reduce Mumbai-Navi Mumbai commute to 20 mins from 2 hours.Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the country’s longest sea bridge, which would shorten travel time between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated Atal Setu, India’s longest sea bridge in Mumbai. Officially named the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link, the bridge spans a total length of 21.8 kilometers, with 16.5 kilometers stretching over the Arabian Sea and 5.5 kilometers on land. This will shorten the travel time from 2 hours to 15-20 minutes.

The bridge connects Mumbai’s Sewri to Raigad’s Chirle, significantly reducing travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, as well as improving access to the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai International Airports.

A toll of Rs 375 would be levied on cars returning via the sea bridge. Monthly and daily passes will be sold at Rs 625 and Rs 12,500, respectively.

The MTHL will be a six-lane sea link spanning 16.50 kilometres on the water and 5.50 kilometres on land. Motorcycles, autorickshaws, and tractors will not be permitted on the sea bridge, while four-wheelers must adhere to a speed limit of 100 km per hour.

The longest sea bridge in India comprises six lanes and it has been built at a budget of ₹17,000 crores. The 21.8 km-long sea bridge will reduce the travel time between Sewri in Central Mumbai to Chirle in Navi Mumbai by nearly 40 minutes.

Out of the total length, nearly 16km stretch spans across the sea with a remaining length running through land.

The project’s construction contracts were awarded to leading industry players Larsen and Toubro and Tata Projects.

The project was awarded to MMRDA in November 2017 and the construction work began in April 2018. It was initially scheduled for completion in April 2023, but the deadline was later extended to December 2023. According to an MMRDA estimate, 70,000 vehicles will use the sea bridge every day, when the bridge becomes functional, according to a Mint report.

The innovative ORT system is set to facilitate toll collection until the year 2045. MMRDA will use this system to enhance the efficient collection of tolls

the Prime Minister is set to lay the foundation stone for an underground road tunnel linking the Eastern Freeway’s Orange Gate. Additionally, he will launch the Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan in the state during his visit.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) is a dual-carriageway bridge spanning 22 kilometers with six lanes, crossing the Thane Creek in the Arabian Sea. It links Sewri in the island city of Mumbai to Chirle in the Raigad district on the mainland.

Comprising a 16.5-kilometer sea link and viaducts on land at both ends, the MTHL has a combined length of 5.5 kilometers.

According to MMRDA records, an average of 5,403 workers and engineers were involved in daily efforts towards completing the project since its commencement in mid-2018, IE reported

In terms of entry points and restrictions, multi-axle heavy vehicles, trucks, and buses heading towards Mumbai are barred from using the Eastern Freeway. Instead, they are directed to take the Mumbai Port-Sewri Exit (Exit 1C) and utilize the MBPT Road near ‘Gadi Adda’ for further movement.

According to police statements made on Wednesday, the maximum speed limit for four-wheelers, including cars, taxis, light motor vehicles, minibuses, and two-axle buses, on the MTHL will be 100 kmph. However, there will be speed restrictions of 40 kmph during the ascent and descent of the bridge to enhance safety.

After more than seven years since its foundation was laid, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the country’s longest sea bridge, during his day-long visit to Maharashtra on Friday. Officially named the ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu,’ the bridge spans from Sewri in Mumbai to Chirle in the mainland district of Raigad at Navi Mumbai, aiming to reduce travel time by approximately 45 minutes. Modi’s convoy is scheduled to traverse this route, leading to Panvel, where he is slated to address a rally.
