As the new year begins, calendars are already filling up with holiday observances.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has designated 12 federal holidays spanning 11 dates this year. This overlap occurs because both Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day fall on January 20.
Federal holidays typically result in the closure of federal offices, banks, and financial markets.
Notably absent from the OPM’s list is January 9, which President Joe Biden has declared a National Day of Mourning to honor former President Jimmy Carter following his recent passing.
Other holidays on the calendar to be celebrated include Easter, Hanukkah and Ramadan.
